Aufgepolstert

Neulich sah ich zufällig einen einfachen Sattel angeboten und wollte eigentlich nur die dazugehörende Schabracke haben. Als der Sattel aber hier war, sah ich, dass er sich relativ leicht noch etwas aufarbeiten lassen würde. Und genau das habe ich heute gemacht.

Recently I got my hands onto a very simpy saddle and originally just bought it because of the saddle-cloth that came with. When having the saddle here I saw that a little enhancement would not take all that much time, so I set to work.

...hat eine sehr eigenwillige Begurtung. Da die Idee aber grundsätzlich praktisch ist wenn man draußen auf- Fototour auf oder absatteln will, werde ich das beibehalten und nur etwas weniger kratz-gefährlich machen.

... has a very creative way of closing the girth. I really like that idea, though, because if you want to remove the saddle while being on phototour and later get it back on, the realistic way of closing a girth can turn into quite the challenge. So I am just gonna make it a bit less prone to leave scratches on unprotected models.



Als erstes habe ich den Sattel vorsichtig auseinandergenommen, zum Glück hielt der Kleber nicht mehr so gut. Hier sieht man das Innenleben.

First I gently took the saddle apart. Thankfully, the glue did not hold that strongly anymore. So here you see the single parts.


Die Steigbügelriemen sind nicht verstellbar, da eingeklebt. Ich hätte hier Ringe eingearbeitet und verstellbare Riemen genommen, aber da leider das Riemenende fest mit dem Sattelblatt verklebt ist, konnte ich hier nichts ändern ohne das Sattelblatt kaputt zumachen. Die Bügel wurden deshalb nur vorsichtig abgelöst und später wieder hingeklebt.

The stirrup-straps can not be adjusted, because they are glued into place. I wanted to change that and add rings and adjustable straps, but the ends of the straps are solidly glued to the saddle itself and I would have ruined its surface by removing them. So I just carefully removed the front part of them and glued it back again, later.


Um dem Sattel Form zugeben, habe ich die simpelste Form eines Sattelbaums gewählt- einfacher Blumendraht. Trägt kaum auf, ist aber doppelt gelegt stark genug das Leder in Form zu halten.

To give shape to the saddle's seat, I chose the simplest way of making a saddle-tree. Simple wire. It almost takes no room, but laid double as here is strong enough to keep the leather in shape.


Zuerst wollte ich die Löcher im unteren Sattelblatt nur mit Flicken schließen.

First, I planned to simply cover up the holes in the lower saddleflap.


Doch dann habe ich das Ganze lieber mit einer Schicht dünnen Leders bedeckt.

But then I decided to rather cover all of it with a layer of thin leather.


Hier die Teile, die nun wieder zusammengefügt werden müssen.

Meine überarbeitete Version der Begurtung sieht nun so aus:

Und noch die Sattelkissen. Ich konnte keine kompletten Polster einbauen, da der Sattel im vorderen Teil sonst zu weit vom Pferderücken weggekommen wäre, da das Leder der Sattelblätter sehr dick und starr ist.

And the upholstery. I could not build the normal sized sort of saddle-pillows here, because the saddle is made from thick and rather immobile leather. Big pillows reaching further under it would have lifted the whole saddle way off of the horse's back.


Und so sieht er nun aus.

Das tapferste Modellpferd des Stalls

....ist wohl Löwenherz. Warum? Weil ich kein anderes Remake-Opfer bisher so oft wieder auseinander gepflückt habe, um ihn neu wieder zusammenzubauen. Eigentlich müßte er ohnmächtig werden, wenn er eine Säge sieht- wird er aber nicht. Und darum ist er der Tapferste, ich hatte wohl schon sowas geahnt als ich ihn getauft habe. *g*

Jetzt habe ich einen kleinen Durchbruch erzielt- ich habe die Position der Beine endlich zufriedenstellend geändert, vorher hat immer irgendwas gestört. (Die Beine an sich brauchen offensichtlich noch eine Menge Arbeit)

Da fehlt was? Achso, ja, der Unterkiefer. Der liegt ihm gerade zu Füßen. Denn um sicherzustellen, das ich ihn garantiert niemals fertig bekomme habe ich beschlossen, dass er gähnen wird.





Die nächste Frage ist nun, kann ich mit den Beulen unterhalb der Kniescheiben leben oder nicht? (Da liegt der Draht richtig beschränkt...damals hatte ich noch nicht so den Überblick was das anging) Wenn nicht, müßte ich die Hinterbeine absägen... o.O

Naja, hier aber erstmal zur Erinnerung der weite Weg, den Löwenherz schon hinter sich hat. Alles fing so an, es waren einmal ein Pacer Kopf und Körper...


Ziemlich eindeutig, dass da so ziemlich alles nicht stimmt.


Dann bekam er seine Beine etwas sortiert und den Rücken verlängert und einen neuen Kopf (Hannoveraner)

Und dann eine Haltungsänderung, die im viel mehr Ausdruck gab.




Aber irgend was nervte immer noch mit den Beinen auf der linken Seite. Bis ich nun zu Säge und Seitenschneider gegriffen habe und die (hoffentlich) letzte Stellungsveränderung gemacht habe.

Außerdem habe ich meiner Webseite viele neue Bilder hinzugefügt und angefangen, mein Tack auf einer Seite eigens dafür vorzustellen. Ich habe mir erstmal mit ein paar schon vorhandenen Bildern beholfen, aber ich werde auch noch neue Bilder machen und nach und nach einstellen.

I think I now finally fixed the position of the legs, yay! The legs themselves do need some fixings still, obviously. *g* The big question here is if I will be able to live with the lumpy area under his kneecaps there on the hindlegs... The wire lies there very stupidly, because at the time when I began him, I was pretty clueless about that. If I can't live with that, I will have to saw his hindlegs off, though...

And yes, he is missing his lower jaw. It lies at his feet there. That is because I decided to ensure I would never finish him in this life and will sculpt him a yawning snout.XD

In other news I have been busily adding some piccies to my horse website and I made an entirely new page for it where I present my favourite tack-pieces. I'll be adding to it bit by bit. Some images I already had to hand and new ones will be taken, too.

Show-Set in Arbeit

Seit langer Zeit bin auch mal wieder damit beschäftigt etwas aus Leder zu basteln. Mein Harvest Moon bekommt nun das Show-Set, das ich im letzten Post angedacht hatte. Bisher habe ich am Gurt und Ausbindern gearbeitet.
Hier die Anfänge des Gurtes:


Dann kam mein neues Lieblingswerkzeug an- ein Lederhobel, wie praktisch! (Der Griff ist umwickelt, weil ich anscheinend allergisch auf das Metall bin)


Mit Hilfe des Hobels konnte ich die Gurtstrippen noch verfeinern und auch die Ausbinder waren kein Problem mehr.
Hier mal mit einer ausgeborgten Trense. Eine passende Trense kommt auch noch dran, wenn ich den Gurt fertig habe.

For the first time in ages I am doing something with leather now. I am making one of those show sets I mentioned in the last post for Harvest Moon.
And in between of making the surcingle, my new tool arrived. It is for skiving leather and I have no idea what the English word for it is. (I wrapped the handle because I seem to be allergic to the metal) But the tool itself is wonderful. I could already use it to refine the straps of the surcingle.
Below you see the current state of the project with a borrowed bridle. Some details left to add to the surcingle and then it is time for the bridle.

In Arbeit

Mein Neuankömmling hat Fortschritte gemacht, die ich Euch eigentlich zeigen wollte, aber er hält einfach nicht still. *g* Deshalb ist alles was ich bisher zeigen kann das:

Pimp my Rug!

Schon vor einiger Zeit hatte ich eine blau-gelbe Breyer Decke gekauft, in der Hoffnung sie etwas verschönern zu können. Das habe ich nun in Angriff genommen.
Die Decke sieht im Original so aus- etwas seltsamer Schnitt und vorne und links riesige Klettverschlüsse an viel zu langen Strippen: Breyer Decke Blau-Gelb

Und nachdem ich ein bißchen daran gearbeitet habe, sieht die Decke so aus:





Was habe ich gemacht?
Die vorderen Riemen abgetrennt, alle Klettverschlüsse herausgetrennt. Dann habe ich aus der Rambo-Decke, die eh keinem Pferd passt, die Gurtverschlüsse herausgetrennt und sie an den Gurtstrippen der blauen Decke wieder befestigt, außerdem noch eine Schnalle dahinter, mit der sich, wie bei echten Decken, die Länge der Strippe an den Bauchumfang anpassen läßt.
Auf der Unterseite der Decke habe ich eine Naht ausgelassen und auf der Oberseite die Lage einer der Strippen auf der rechten Seite korrigiert und somit den Sitz der Decke etwas verbessern können.
Als letztes habe ich die Riemen, die ursprünglich vorne dran waren, zurechtgeschnitten und mit Schnallen versehen.
Ein Tip zu den Riemen- damit man damit überhaupt arbeiten kann, ohne das sie aufribbeln, habe ich die Unterseiten mit Sekundenkleber eingestrichen. Dadurch wird der Riemen fest, läßt sich sehr gut schneiden und Fäden können sich auch nicht mehr lösen.

Und dann kam heute noch ein Neuankömmling an- der muss aber erst noch in die Maske, sozusagen.

English Summary:
Today, I show a customized rug, not a horse, LOL!
Already a while ago, I got bought the blue and yellow Breyer rug in hopes of making it look more real. It is this one: Breyer rug in blue and yellow
It has a slightly weird fit and huge velcro on all ends of the ribbons. The ribbons are also waay too long and flop about uselessly under the horse.

After a while of work, I came to a pleasing result, that you can see in the pictures above. Now it looks way more real and fits better.

So what did I do to it?
I cut loose the ribbons in the front and removed all velcro most carefully from all straps. Then my useless (it fits no horse I own) Breyer Rambo Rug did a donation of metal parts, because those clasps are the only good things about it, LOL!
The clasps I reattached to the straps of the blue blanket and I also did not forget to add a buckle that now varies the length of the strap, just as on a real blanket.
On the underside of the blanket one seam was opened and on the surface the position of one strap corrected marginally- lo, immediately a better fit!
Lastly, I cut the ribbons to size that had been originally in front, attached buckles to them and reattached everything to the blanket.

A tip for working with those ribbons- to be able to work with them at all and not have them run like heck, I glued their underside and set to dry. After that, I could cut them like paper and no lose fibres threatened to ruin everything.

And then the last picture above shows a new arrival- or rather part of him... he needs to get some overhaul first, but I could not resist a sneak peek.

Frühstück mit Hindernissen

Carl wollte heute Morgen nach der Stallarbeit so richtig herzhaft frühstücken- aber dann haben die Hunde ihm jeden Bissen in den Hals geschielt. *g*





Das tolle Frühstück (Brot und Käse) kommt von Fernando, mit der ich einen kleinen Überraschungstausch gemacht habe. :) )

This breakfast wasn't as peaceful as planned, Carl had intended to have some hearty breakfast after the stablework of the morning, but then the dogs kept him under verrrry close surveillance.
The lovely breakfast (bread and cheese) is made by Fernando, with whom I had a little trade of surprises.

Neue Decke

Vor einer Weile hatte ich bei Franzi eine Decke in Auftrag gegeben und heute ist sie angekommen. Franzi war super hilfsbereit und hat nicht nur mein Wunsch-Design mit dem hellen Streifen umgesetzt, sondern mir auch noch bei der Farbwahl geholfen, da die von mir ausgesuchten Farben live nicht ganz so toll gepasst hätten.

Nun ist die Decke hier und ich bin richtig begeistert!
Da ich bei dem schönen Wetter heute draußen war und somit keine Chance zu fotografieren hatte, hier ein paar Regenwetter-Regal-Fotos, aber es wird nochmal bessere Bilder geben.





English Summary:
A while ago, I ordered a rug from Franzi and today it arrived.
Franzi had been super helpful, not only creating my desired layout with the lighter stripe at the bottom, but also helping a lot with choosing the colours when my choice (based on a photo) wouldn't have looked so nice for real.
Now the rug is here and I am totally happy about it, it is every bit as wonderful as I had hoped. Since I spent the part of the day when it was still dry outdoors, I just have two quick indoor-because of rain- shelf pics. Better ones shall come up!

Es schimmelt

...natürlich nicht in echt, nur auf den Modellen. *g*
Es schimmelt einmal in klein- denn ich habe ein Schleichpferd gefunden, dem ich nicht widerstehen konnte- es hat tatsächlich mal einen normalen Kopf, weder zu klein, noch die typische "Schleichgurke".
Es ist der Fellpony-Hengst und da ich vergessen habe, ihn in OF zu fotografieren, hier ein Bild:

Ich mag das Haarnetz gar nicht und deshalb habe ich es übermodelliert. Ich kann mich gar nicht mehr erinnern wann ich zuletzt Langhaar modelliert habe- dafür sieht es ganz gut aus:


Ich werde einen Apfelschimmel aus ihm machen und habe deshalb angefangen, ihn in dem dunkelsten Farbton zu grundieren. (Ich male die Apfelschimmel immer so rum und helle dann auf)

Einen Namen hat er auch schon: Midget


Da ich noch mehr zum Grundieren hatte, war mir dann irgendwann langweilig, weil das Trocknen immer so lange dauert und ich hab mir meinen Springinsfeld geschnappt und kurzentschlossen entschieden, das der doch kein Fliegenschimmel wird (dann male ich den nämlich nie fertig, ich kenne mich doch) sondern auch ein Apfelschimmel, allerdings ein ganz heller, da er kein Jungpferd darstellt.




Deshalb hier nun die Anfänge, die aber noch weiter aufgehellt werden. (Technik: Acrylfarben und größten Teils Trockenbürsten/Drybrush)
Vielleicht wird er in diesem Leben ja doch noch fertig...

Greyness everywhere! The sky was rainy and grey today and so are the horses. *g*
First a mini-grey. I found to my delight that there actually is a Schleich horse that does not have a too small and somewhat weird head as most of the other Schleichs do.
It is the Fellpony stallion and it had to come home with me. Above in the link, you can view the OF. I did not like the hairdo and went directly over it with Apoxie. It has been a while (in fact I can't remember last time) since I sculpted long hair and for that, it does not look too bad.
I have decided to make him a dapple grey and named him Midget. And since I am weird that way, I started with the darkest colour, as usual, as a basecoat. *g*

Midget was not the only one to get a basecoat and so I got bored when everybody sat to dry and simply grabbed someone who has been waiting for the next stage forever, it feels. *g* Since my mind is full of dapple grey, I decided to make him one, too, instead of sticking to my original plan to make him fleabitten grey. Like this, he might actually get finished, too.
So he is going to be a very light dapple gray, the last dapples fading away into the white, which means that he will be getting a lot lighter, yes. *g*

Noch mehr Bernhardiner...

Auf diesem Bild mit Hannes würde man eventuell sehen, dass ich die Pfoten nach Shantis Tipp nachbearbeitet habe, wenn das Weiß nicht so leuchten würde. *g* Aber spätestens bei den nächsten Tageslichtbildern wird man es dann richtig sehen.

On the image together with Hannes, you would be able to see that I have sanded down his too big paws after Shanti's hint to do so. Unfortunately the light is bad and the camera took a liking to the white and well... so details will be revealed in the next daylight photo, then. *g*

The lying down specimen has already found a little friend, too, and I have several cute ideas for images when he is finished.
I am not surprised, though, because already in 2011 when I was still fixing up his body, he was already snuggling with a model horse. *g*
